Little Things

Little Things

Little drops of water,
Little grains of sand,
Make the mighty ocean
And the pleasant land.

Thus the little minutes,
Humble though they be,
Make the mighty ages
Of eternity.

Ebenezer Cobham Brewer (1810-1897)

This long weekend at the ocean I appreciated many little things;

  • G's excitement before the trip, asking: "Mommy, I want to be there now. Why do you think I can't wait anymore?" Mommy;"Because you are excited?", G laughing:" Yes, it is so difficult to wait"
  • the ocean's perfect temperature, cold enough to be refreshing and warm enough to stay in for some time
  • salty, salty sea water. It reminded me of Miko, a mouse character in a children's book, that says the sea tastes like chips
  • a long, sandy beach (especially appreciated after the very rocky treacherous beach at the hotel) with mountains as a backdrop
  • standing in the shallow waves, allowing the sea to bury our feet
  • running on the beach with my 4 year old little precious girl
  • G being so excited about the dresser table in our room where she did her make up
  • the smiling-walk-on-water-blow-up-tiger
  • the challenge to improvise, because self-catering in the UAE doesn't mean cutlery, utensils, pots & pans etc. (making filter coffee in a plastic bottle, cooking two minute noodles in a kettle)
